Why I love my job

So, I just had the most amazing day!  I’m getting all sorts of responses to my response to Invisible Man.  I decided in the end to be honest with them about how I felt after I read about Tod Clifton dying–mostly to try to get them all to finish the book, which I was (and, honestly, still am a bit) worried they wouldn’t.

So! Lots of kids coming in outside of class to talk about the book.  I think my frankness made it safe for them to say that the book is impacting them–not necessarily in the same way it is me, but you know, sometimes we don’t want to admit that we are capable of being deeply troubled… and maybe even a little culpable.

Plus, I got one student to check out Village Earth.  Unexpected!

My students are amazing.  Hope!

Awesome! I’m glad you were honest with them.

Also, as my browser displays your blog, it looks like one of your categories is “suckas teaching torture”. I am trying to imagine what that’s like.
